J Kaufman
J Kaufman (Josh Kaufman) is a studio owner, producer, engineer and songwriter from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hail Fellow Well Met is the first single from this upcoming LP due out this fall. Recorded at Josh’s West Michigan studio, Local Legend Recording, this is the first solo record in 10 years for Josh and a return to self producing.
Josh started his career after graduating from The Institute of Production and recording and then in the studio world at Pachyderm Recording in Canon Falls, MN, famous for Nirvana’s In Utero.
After working his way up to staff engineer there, he joined Brian Setzer on the road as an assistant and later helped tour manage for multiple Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Stray Cats, and Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot Tours.
From there he was hired to the management team of Dave Kaplan Management and Surfdog Records, where he was able to work on projects for Glen Campbell, Eric Clapton, and others.
After moving back to Michigan, Josh joined Peter Fox at his established Stone House Recording as the two partnered up, expanded the studio, and made many many records.
When Peter moved closer to his family out west, Josh spent two years renovating a 100 year old building in the West Side of Grand Rapids and launched Local Legend Recording in March of 2021.
Josh has produced, engineered, or mixed records most recently for some of the best talent West Michigan has to offer, and will be releasing his 1st full length LP this Fall.
